The Basement
We had Stanley Steemers come out and steamclean and deodorize the downstairs carpet (as well as the rest of the carpets). The smell was pretty bad in the basement, and I went out yesterday and picked up a 5-gallon dehumidifier. I plugged it in last night when I got home and this morning there was approximately 4 gallons of water in it.
Hopefully this will help.
Several people have suggested lava rocks ... anyone else ever hear of this?

Yes, I remember Brackenville Woods ... and an incident with breaking out an axe to re-open the French Drain ... This is different - the prior owners had a couple of long-haired setters that smelled it up. It's not a urine smell, it's a "wet dog" smell.
God willing, we'll have a couple of relatively non-rainy days where we can open up the basement windows and give it a good airing out.
Otherwise, I've been given an ultimatum - "We're going to rip out the carpet."
Ugh.
